/ POPULATION Hudson was settled around the 1600's, as settlers began to
build homes and farm the land. It was named after Charles Hudson, a local
benefactor. Many of the buildings in Hudson today are old and historic
buildings that have been renovated and restored. One such building is the
Unitarian Church, from which such luminaries as Ralph Waldo Emerson and
Mark Twain once spoke. Hudson was active in assisting the anti-slavery
cause, and was a stop on the Underground Rail Road in the 1800's. Hudson
recently received a grant and completed a renovation project that includes
brick-lined sidewalks, trees, and reproduction gaslight streetlamps,
further adding to its charm. Hudson's population stands at 18,113. Other attractions include Craft Fair and Lord's Acre Corn Festival in Bolton, the German Oktoberfest in Walpole, and numerous other harvest festivals, cook-offs, and street fairs. One of Hudson's special attractions is a miniature church, only 5' X 11' which holds four people (it is used for weddings, and outside services where people gather in front of the church). Hudson does not have any museums, however, the town's location makes it easy to access all of the culture and entertainment you desire with a very short commute. A few of the nearby attractions include the Ralph Waldo Emerson Memorial House, the Salisbury Mansion, and the Minute Man National Historic Park. EDUCATION There are 3 elementary schools, both middle
